Impressive characteristics of the industrial center

In order to promote exchange and research common issues among small and medium-sized companies in the Tama region, we are constructing a business network. We are currently carrying out testing so that the network may stand as a center of industrial exchange.

Points of excellence

  • * The Tama region contains 45 universities, 155 civilian or public research organizations, and 211,608 university students, coming together in a region filled with people of talent.
  • * As Tama is known for its abundance of products and components developers, the region is ideal for recruiting development partners.
  • * As a region where numerous product developers have split off from larger businesses, it is hospitable to the formation of new businesses.
  • * A considerable number of component developers serve focused markets such as prototypes, parts, embedded software, etc. Many companies can also carry out component processing or design for challenging requests.
  • * Market needs indispensable to product development are quickly transmitted from the commercial center of Tokyo.
  • * Easy access to Tsukuba (general research center), making commuting possible.
  • * The Tama region acts as a relay point between various areas of product development.
  • * Rich nature, low crime rate, and other factors add to the appeal of Tama as an easy-to-live, verdant region. Facilities such as hospitals (185 locations) and international schools (18 locations) contribute to ease of living.

Core Approaches and Major Initiatives

Continued buildup and development of industry, the creation and growth of innovation

  • * In order to support the growth of urban-oriented industries, we will form bonds between municipalities and make use of regional specialties and resources.
  • * In order to encourage financing for industrial locations, we will seek to establish long-term, low-interest financing for construction of urban factories and other facilities.
  • * With the establishment of a Tama region industrial support center in 2009, we will strengthen support for electronics that contribute to manufacturing in the Tama region, providing unified support of technology and business management.

Improving international competitiveness with worldwide promotion and interest

  • * We will widely promote the technology and products from Tama's small and mid-sized businesses and their potential in both foreign and domestic markets, enhancing progress and cooperation among businesses in the Tama Region.
  • * We will discover businesses which promote the value of the Tama Region around the world.

As the first stage in supporting industry, we promote vitalization in three core fields.

To promote the innovation of the Tama region, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Metropolitan Small Business Promotion Agency have formed the “Tama Industrial Community Project.” Targeting three fields of industry, the program forms a community to allow researchers, engineers, administrators, and others involved in these businesses to maintain free, active exchange and collaboration. We seek to support new projects created from this program, giving rise to new businesses. To the businesses participating in the community, we offer previously unavailable R&D ideas and opportunities for ideal collaborations, creating an environment that enhances commercialization

Building the Tama region to lead the world with innovation

Administrators will become central as we form the administrative “Industrial Activity Promotion Group,” encouraging business enterprises, universities, and research organizations to participate in the community. In particular, connection among the following 3 major industries is growing.

Matching People and Technology to Today's Needs

The Tama Industrial Community Promotion Project is a vision strategically positioned to spearhead efforts to build new business communities, mobilize those initiatives to develop new products, formulate business partnerships fueled by high-added value, and advance other hands-on efforts to expand business opportunities.
